Poker

Poker is a card game that is played by two or more players and involves betting between hands. It can also involve the use of bluffing.

The goal of the player is to make a winning hand by matching or bettering the other players’ hands. The highest hand is a Royal Flush (A, K, Q, J, and 10 of the same suit). Other hands include Four of a Kind; Straight; Three of a Kind; Pair; and High Card. If no one has a winning hand, then the pot is split evenly among the players.

Depending on the rules of the game, one or more players are required to place an initial amount into the pot before the cards are dealt. This is called a forced bet and it can be in the form of an ante, a blind bet, or a bring-in bet.

Once the forced bets are made, the dealer shuffles and then deals the cards to each player one at a time beginning with the person on their left. The cards may be dealt face up or face down.

The story in poker is about the characters and their reactions to the cards that are dealt. Focus most of your attention on the players’ actions and by-play and avoid telling too many personal anecdotes.
